Musician: Isabel is a saxophonist who received her BA (Hons) in Jazz from Leeds College of Music in 2011. While at LCoM she specialised in performance (playing in both small group and big band settings) and developed a passion for Indian classical music and electro-acoustic composition. She has performed throughout the UK and Europe with folk bands. Whilst travelling in Central America she had the opportunity to research local music traditions. She is currently developing new project, collaborating with musicians from varying backgrounds, with the intention of exploring the traditions of soul and blues music.
Music Leader: Isabel has worked as a music leader and assistant in a range of settings with children and adults with a variety of needs. Isabel has worked extensively with young people with special needs including on the UP! Orchestra and respite care in Surrey and CEDA in Exeter. She runs music enrichment sessions at a secondary school for boys with social, emotional and mental health difficulties in London with the aim of improving the student’s self-esteem, tolerance and social cohesion. She has volunteered her saxophone skills for children at The Bethlem and Maudsley Hospital School and with Prof. Adam Ockelford’s piano students. Since taking part in the MUSICDARE (Music in Creative Detoxification and Rehabilitation) programme at the University of Macedonia, Isabel also volunteers in Southwark, London with those affected by drug addiction; facilitating music projects as well as mentoring the young people at the centre.
